Chelmsford Poppy Festival 2026

Calling All Knitters, Crocheters & Craft Groups!

Chelmsford is coming together to create a powerful community display for Remembrance Day 2026, and we need as many knitted and crocheted poppies as possible!

Whether you’re an experienced knitter, part of a local crafting group, or completely new to yarn crafts, your poppies will help fill Chelmsford with a moving tribute of remembrance.

 Poppy Patterns

You may use any pattern you prefer, but below are reliable options for all skill levels:

KNITTED POPPY PATTERNS (x2)

CROCHET POPPY PATTERN

Important:

Please do not attach plastic buttons to the centre of your poppies. We want to environmentally friendly!

Please be sure to leave a “tail” of a few inches attached. This is so we can easily attach each poppy to a display (see pictures).

Please deliver or send your completed poppies to:

Chelmsford CVS, Burgess Well House, Coval Lane, CM1 1FW
Contact: 01245 351888 / info@chelmsfordcvs.org.uk

or

Chelmsford City Council (front reception desk), Civic centre, Duke Street, CM1 9 SW

Where Your Poppies Will Be Displayed

In partnership with Chelmsford City Council, your handmade poppies will be used to decorate key locations across Chelmsford, including:

City centre lampposts

City centre railings

High Chelmer Shopping Centre

Chelmsford Market

Shire Hall

Participating Businesses

We are also creating special movable installations, which will be displayed around Chelmsford and then transported to the Civic Centre War Memorial for Remembrance Day Services.

Each display will be accompanied by QR codes and official collection points so visitors can donate directly to the Royal British Legion.

Can’t knit? No problem

You can still be part of this project by purchasing a ball of red, double-knit wool and donating that instead!

Poppy‑a‑Thon: Come Knit With Us!

Join us on Tuesday 2nd June at Moulsham Lodge Community Trust from 10am to 4pm for a warm and welcoming Knit‑a‑Thon!

Come and knit or crochet with others, enjoy a day of friendly conversation, and help create poppies for Chelmsford’s remembrance displays. There’s no need to book, just turn up whenever you like.

Bring your own needles and red wool, settle in with a cup of tea or coffee, and enjoy the community atmosphere. There will also be a short talk from the Royal British Legion, making this a meaningful and enjoyable day for everyone, whether you stay for the whole time or just drop in.

Beginners welcome.

Thank you!
